Unusual Applications
- when showing this to my young child, i had an idea. you could use this to create a sort of simple easter egg hunt (easter eggs as in the old fashioned kind, not as in software). hide something interesting somewhere in the file system, and let kids go trolling around looking for it throughout the file system. make it a huge and deeply nested hierarchy, with links to folders, etc. leave documents with hints, etc.
- some of the ideas I've posted in other threads could be useful or built upon for forensic and security operations use. IE, in a large monitoring center could be used as an additional, more "visceral" way of keeping an eye on activity within sensitive file systems.

There's a good candidate for the safe-mode you mentioned Would require a lot of trust with the current incarnation.

Hah. Watching too much CSI I bet. What would be really cool would be to see other users avatars as you move through the file-space... and actually be able to watch them perform file operations... or give you files (if you're not hidden). Well, who knows... hopefully Tactile 3D is a small step towards the VR of Snow Crash.

actually... forensic intrusion analysis, etc. is a major concern and area of investment for many large enterprises and of course for various three letter agencies. i'm not in that space, but could see a tool like this, with some additional capabilities, being in the ol' toolkit.
